no-trespassing1seen a coupla hunters walking in the field next to my place. they were heading to the timber. that made me smile. you wonder why would that cause one to smile. its a long story. but it is entertaining.

last fall during hunting season, someone parked on our road, which is a private drive. i kinda got tired of that since it happens every hunting season. i mentioned that to a tribal big shot  saying theres nothing i can do about it. he replied ‘oh yeah there is something you can do’. it happened again a few days later. so i went to that guys office and told him about it. he just gave me a song and dance. said tribe didnt have any money for signs. typical response.

no-huntingi then called the local Bureau of In Activity. got a different response. at first i was kinda chumped off, i was told to call the tribal po’ leece. my dealings with any kind of cops havent been all that productive. so that wasnt a high priority for me. i was then told the bureau didnt have any money for signs. and i was to call the tribe. i said i already did that and got the same answer. i was then told they would look into some signs for me. i thanked them for giving me some kinda response. a few days later i got the signs. they were card board signs on a wooden stake. one side said ‘no hunting’. maybe they didnt understand. they werent hunting on my land, which is a hayfield. they were parking on it. the other side said ‘no trespassing’ ‘violators will be prosecuted”.  i wondered by who. or is it by whom. no matter. i remember hearing that any law independent of the sword was meaningless. i didnt put the signs up. they really would have looked ridiculous.

meanwhile back at the ranch, another hunter parked on my land. i then called the tribal po’ leece. not too long after i heard a knock on the door. it was a guy from tribal. i told him the situation. he said that the land owner south of me was leasing the land out to hunters. i said ‘yeah, but they arent paying me to park on my land’. he said he knew the land owner and would call him. before he left he said if i had any problems to call them first. i thanked him for responding.  after that the hunters parked in the other field.

that is until this spring. must have a short memory or sumthin. a truck load of them went down my road. so i got in my car and drove down to where they were. they turned around and left. i thought alright they got the point. a coupla days later they were back. i got in my car and drove down there again. they stopped and i told them ‘this is a private drive’. one guy was alright with that and they starting leaving. one guy said ‘we arent parking here, we are only dropping someone off”.  i said you are leasing that land over there, not my land. then one of the other guys mouthed off while they were driving off. chicken shit. four 0f them with guns and he waited til they drove off.

not wanting to go thru all that routine with people that wont do a damn thing anyway, i called tribal po’ leece again. the dispatcher said they would get a hold of the land owner again. i thanked him and hung up. today the hunters walked to the timber. and that is what made me smile. they never asked me permission to cross my land or park on it. they just took it. then the smart ass tried to play word games by saying they werent parking on my land. trespassing is trespassing. they didnt have my permission to be on my land. and one of them smarted off while driving away.

my hat is off to tribal, they were the only ones that dealt with it. and they were professional about it. i remember that over the years i have lost some good dogs during hunting season. i had some real good beagles that disappeared. cant prove anyone took them, but it always happened during hunting season. i paid some good money for those dogs. one was sired by a champion. it came from good bloodlines. i quit getting beagles after losing a few. and they are my favorite dog.

i hope that for now the problem is resolved. i can walk two miles a day. it wouldnt hurt the hunters to walk a quarter of a mile to the timber. seems every hunting season people from off the rez come to hunt here. like it is some kind of game preserve. and no one does a damn thing about it. who gives a damn if they go onto indian land to hunt. i cant stop them, but they arent parking on my land. thats for damn sure.

the ground has been so wet i wasnt sure i would ever get anything planted.  the ground is kinda workable. so i tilled up where new ground was broke this spring. i planted tomatoes, habenero peppers, green peppers, cucumbers, zuchinni and green beans. i also planted some injun beans on a trellise that runs up the front of my chicken house. then i planted some gourds in front of my tool shed. i will wait a little while to plant my corn and pumpkins. i definitely will have them in before my next road trip. my strawberry plants are flowering. my sage, cilantro and dill came up on its own. so did my tobacco. i will transplant it to the new ground.

i was hoping to find some plants at the flea market this past weekend. i went to sparks and white cloud. they advertised that they would have over 400 booths. i didnt find any plants for my garden. so i had to go to the greenhouse where i usually get them.

while i was at white cloud i checked out their casino. havent been there before, so i signed up for a players card. it is my birthday this month so i got a buffet pass. i used it that day. i had catfish. i will go check out all the injun casinos since they give a free buffet pass if it is your birth month. dont know what them free buffets will cost me in the end. gotta make sure i keep my walking up. i gotta watch my weight.

i dont know what to think of the swine flu scare. seems like some people enjoy keeping the populace living in fear. first we had to be afraid of terrorists, then the economy. now we must fear we will catch a flu that may be a killer. i remember hearing about swine flu about 30 years ago. i guess no one has done anything about it. it is back and scaring the hell out of people. if it aint one damn thing its another.

i have been getting a buncha graduation invitations. i have alot of relatives that are graduating. i have more relatives than a politician running for office. some are even having cookouts. injuns sure like to eat.

kinda up for my next road trip. i am heading to quincy illinois. it is a bus tour of about 20 or so burial mounds. some archaelogists will do a running commentary of the whole tour. thats sounds interesting. i like to study ancient civilizations. i am sure i will learn something.

it is suppose to rain some more tonight and then this week. i imagine the water will just run off since it wont soak up.  i noticed when i was out mushroom hunting that the weeds in the timber were getting tall. i only went twice. had my fill of them. there was evidence of lots of water running everywhere. probably will be wishing for some rain later this summer. gotta take what comes.
